About

An ardent health & fitness specialist who started from the ashes of a severely neglected body, mind & spirit. Through exploring different martial arts & fitness modalities, as well as growing self-discipline & dedication, he steadily worked his way up, while simultaneously developing his latent interest in body-mechanics.

During 2009 Rickus started with bodyweight training specialist, Karl Van Lith, who guided him in refining his skills & setting him on a path to qualify as Fitness Instructor.

Certifying under internationally acclaimed Coaches Scott Sonnon & Alberto Gallazzi in 2011 & 2013, he obtained certificates in TACFIT (Tactical Responders Fitness) & C.S.T. (Circular Strength Training). Rickus attained yet another milestone in his career after successfully completing Anne Combrink’s Yoga Teacher’s Training at Ananda Sanga Yoga School in 2018. 

Expertise in Bodyweight Training, Yoga, Calisthenics & Tactical Gymnastics, to name but a few, form part of his “arsenal”. In tandem with his passion for movement is his dedication to coach, guide & motivate others towards reaching their own true potential.

Bodyweight Training

Bodyweight training is strength & conditioning exercises that typically rely on using one’s own bodyweight as resistance against gravity. This style of training supports the development of functional muscle, agility, stamina, strength, power, speed & flexibility.

Its efficacy to attain quick, sustainable results is becoming more popular in both recreational & professional arenas. Moreover, since the use of free weights & machines are not required, it allows athletes to train outside the confines of the mechanical gym environment.

With an aptitude for movement, Coach Rickus draws his inspiration from various disciplines i.e. Martial Arts, Gymnastics, Yoga & traditional Bodyweight Training.

Coach Rickus builds the necessary foundation to boost athletic performance, whether for leisure or professional sports such as athletics, cycling, watersports, boxing & football.

Yoga

Yoga is a holistic system with the physical aspect namely Asana, being the 3rd Limb of the Eight-Fold Path.

It teaches spiritual values, mindful-living & self-development to ensure balance & harmony between body, mind & spirit.

Other branches of Yoga include mind training, proper breathing & meditation.

Yoga in its many forms has inspired people for more than 5000 years & has had a tremendous impact on Western society during the last century.

For modern athletes Yoga introduces the ability to incorporate & synthesize aspects of balance, harmony & presence which had been neglected in our civilized society.

Kettlebell Training

Kettlebells or, ‘Girya’ in Russian, historically were used by tradesmen as a counterweight to measure grains & other goods.

This cannonball-shape with “horns” has long since been revered among athletes for its functional attributes.

The characteristic design, in addition to ballistic movements, allow for improved grip strength, dynamic flexibility, explosive power, functional strength & endurance. Kettlebell Training demonstrates its effectiveness through various systems such as Olympic Kettlebell Lifting, Martial Arts & Weight Training.

Coach Rickus skilfully integrates Kettlebells into his programming to optimize physical performance.

Clubbell Training

The Steel Clubbell is duly recognised throughout the fitness industry as a unique apparatus for non-linear or circular strength conditioning.

It’s signature shape and counterpoise allow for a range of multiplanar exercises endorsing functional fitness, stamina, endurance, balance, coordination, and proprioception.

Although hitherto regarded as a tool for the professional athlete, Clubbells have rapidly gained traction among traditional gym establishments.

Owing to its functional traits, Clubbell Training is complementary to a structured fitness regime.

A little bit about me
and my previous work

My methodology is inspired by a number of different disciplines & fitness modalities. My programmes are tailored to the individual’s needs. Regardless of age or level of skill, each client is continuously challenged to improve & refine their ability to perform effortlessly.

Bodyweight exercises are elementary to strength training. In addition to functional fitness, I incorporate the use of Kettlebells, Clubbells, Gymnastics Rings, Pull-Up Bar, Parallettes, Sandbags, & Medicine Balls.

By combining HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), joint mobility, restorative training, & complimentary Yoga, my style of fitness offers a unique experience. These metabolic conditioning & revolutionary strength training methods – in conjunction with my dedication to improve techniques – are spearheading new pathways in the industry.
